Analysis of a Collection

Our first step in this assignment was to select a fashion show of our choosing from the last 20 years, and find a video online of the entire show. I chose the Christian Dior Haute Couture F/W 2007 by John Galliano due to a number of reasons. My favorite fashion house is Dior due to it’s undeniable historical significance and effect on fashion. After watching the entire show on Youtube a few times, it was time to start looking for historical references in the collection. Galliano chose to have this collection at the Orangerie at Versailles, referencing French, English, and Spanish art movements and innovators that inspired his signature eccentric style.

I began my research on the context behind the show itself, including finding clear quality pictures of each look so that I can take my time studying them and looking for historical clues. I then conducted research on famous artworks, historical figures, and art movements that looked familiar to the looks in Galliano’s show. After all my primary and secondary sources were found, I began drafting my final essay. I started with an introduction and background of the context of the House of Dior, and the specific significance that show held. I then wrote about the history of the venue, and gave a detailed summary that painted a picture of the show for the readers. I focused on a few looks that had a direct correlation to famous artwork and described the similarities with correct fashion and art terminology.

After I had revised and structured my research and analysis in a way that I was happy with, I formatted my figures and sources in the correct citation style. I added a title, my name, the class I was in, and the date, and I was ready to turn it in.
